Ele-king Ambient Japan special issue
I have a couple pieces in the new special issue on Japanese ambient music from the stalwart Japanese music magazine Ele-King. A new essay,「kankyō ongaku」の発明 (the invention of ‘kankyō ongaku’), and a translation of the Hosono Haruomi section from Ambient Media.

Immersive Enclosure book prize / new metaverse piece
Nice to learn The Immersive Enclosure has won the 2023 The Lewis Mumford Award for Outstanding Scholarship in the Ecology of Technics, from the Media Ecology Association. Also, a new essay exploring Japanese responses to the metaverse is out now with Media, Culture & Society (open access preprint here).
